I love to entertain, especially on the holidays. I like to have tons of people around and I love to cook for that many people too. So if you’re like me, here are some recipes from FoodNetwork.com that could give your New Year’s Eve party as much “pop” as that cork from the champagne bottle (ugh, that was really bad…sorry! I think even I cringed a little…): RECIPES HERE!
And if you’re thinking about having a party at your house this year, then you should talk to one of our Encharter Insurance agents about an umbrella insurance policy. If someone should get hurt at your house during your party, you’re liable. An umbrella insurance policy would protect you from the losses of a potential lawsuit.

Well, sorry kiddies…Christmas is over until next year. BUT, the New Year is coming, so we have one last “hoorah” (literally…)! I always liked New Year’s Eve, though I never did anything extraordinary. My best friend and I would watch some of our favorite movies and get some Chinese food and Ben & Jerry’s. Of course, if that’s not your “cup of tea”, then you can always attend one of the many First Night events in Connecticut or you could even go to NYC for New Year’s Eve.
Whatever you do, be sure to stay safe and check with your local Encharter Insurance agent about your CT Car Insurance policy and your CT Umbrella Insurance policy. Your car insurance policy should be able to cover you in the event of an accident and your umbrella insurance policy should be able to cover you in the event that you have friends in the car in that accident. An umbrella policy could also cover you if someone should get hurt at your house during your party. Talk to any one of our knowledgeable agents at Encharter Insurance and they can help you understand your policies and get you the best possible policies for the best possible prices.
Most people don’t like to shovel while they’re outside—but how about shoveling snow from the INSIDE? The couple featured in this odd news clip from Yahoo.com ended up doing just that. They were on vacation when, during a blizzard, one of their side doors opened. Almost 5 inches of snow accumulated in every room of their home. They eventually shoveled out and the only reported damage to the building was the kitchen flooring and faucet.
While the potential damage to your home may not be this severe this winter, why take the unnecessary risk? Talk to your local Encharter Insurance agent today about Home Insurance policies. They want to help you understand your coverage so that you can rest assured knowing that you’re properly insured.

It’s finally beginning to look a lot like Christmas…even if it is 2 days late. The latest news report from FoxCT.com reports that this snow storm has dropped at least a foot of snow so far, but with the heavy winds creating big drifts, it’s hard to give an exact amount. They’re also saying it’s not over yet! The snow will keep coming throughout the day, though the blizzard warning should be lifted today at noon.
This amount of snow causes a lot of hazardous conditions. Obviously if you’re driving on the roads, the snow makes the asphalt very slick and you could very easily find yourself in a car accident, not to mention the lack of visibility being a factor as well. But another thing to keep in mind when this much snow falls is roof collapses and ice dams. If the weight of the snow is too great, the roof underneath could fall in, damaging the roof itself and any objects inside your house or garage that happen to be underneath it. And ice dams, well, nobody likes a leaky roof, so be sure to check out our other blogs on ice dams for preventive measures.
Lastly, be sure to check with your local Encharter Insurance agent about CT Car Insurance policies and CT Home Insurance policies. They want to help you understand your policy and even find you the best possible policy for the best possible price.
Everyone’s looking for the perfect last minute gift. Well, there are oodles of places to start looking, but one of the best sites I’ve found is RedEnvelope.com. They have everything from cuff links for him to earphones for her. And it’s a great place to find something for that person in your life that has everything else.
Of course, another great place to look is our Encharter Insurance Partners Page! There, you will find local small businesses in the area where you can buy that special gift for that someone special. There are restaurants, clothing stores and bakeries. Take a look and support a local small business this holiday season.
If you would like to know more about the other ways we help small businesses grow through social media, call us at 800-675-6695 or email us at socialnetwork@encharter.com. We can also help you with your CT Commercial Insurance questions too. Holiday season means – among many other things – an influx of gifts and new items in your home. Whatever big ticket item you find yourself the proud owner of at the conclusion of this season of giving – be it a new flat screen TV, an expensive piece of fine jewelry, or a new recliner to kick back and watch the Patriots from – it is of the utmost importance that you contact your local Watertown, CT Insurance agent and schedule your high ticket item on your CT Homeowner Insurance policy.
Inquiring about this is the best way to make sure that your new gifts are covered in the event of an unexpected loss. Forgoing this easy process will result in your home and its contents being undervalued on paper, which ultimately means a smaller claim will be paid out in the event of a (covered) catastrophe.
So invest the small amount of time by calling an agent at 888-865-1244 today and keep us up to date with your belongings. Make the risk of loss ours, not yours. It’s what we’re here for. Visit us online to check out all our CT Home Insurance offerings.
And remember, At Encharter, “It’s all about protecting you!”
Bill Clinton tried his best. Despite his efforts, FIFA decided that Russia and Qatar will host the World Cup in 2018 and 2022, respectively. Bill Clinton was part of the committee to represent the USA’s bid to FIFA last week. The United Sates was hoping to host its first World Cup since 1994 in 2022, but was beat out by the oil rich nation of Qatar. Both Russia and Qatar will host the tournament for the first time, expanding the amount of locations the World Cup has been hosted in to 19 different countries.
The decision will mark the first World Cup that will be hosted in the Middle East. Controversy surrounded this decision because Qatar can reach 130 degrees Fahrenheit during the summer, when the World Cup is played. Moreover, Qatar is about the size of Connecticut, and the tournament will attract twice as many visitors as they have citizens.
It will be interesting to see how Russia and Qatar host the biggest sporting event that the world tunes into every four years, but hopefully the heat will not deter fans from attending the games or cause heat exhaustion in players. Qatar is planning world class stadiums that effectively provide cool air on the field.
No matter where the games happen, citizens of the world will gather around the television and watch their home country compete for the trophy. If you are one to have friends and family over for any match, whether it is the World Cup, the World Series, or the Super Bowl, call your Watertown, CT Insurance Agent to ask about Personal Umbrella Insurance (a great resource to have to add additional liability coverage and protection).

I have not finished my Christmas shopping yet…but that’s okay! It’s my favorite part of the holiday. I like it so much that I even like to be at the mall when it’s super busy…I think it’s so festive and I just love giving gifts. But I also know that there are some grinches out there who like to take advantage of the busy holiday season and hurt others. So here are some safety tips to keep in mind while you’re out shopping this year, courtesy of About.com:
Shop during daylight hours whenever possible
Dress casually and comfortably
Avoid wearing expensive jewelry
Stay alert to your surroundings
Avoid overloading yourself with packages
We also know that you’ll be driving to the mall or to your kids’ favorite stores, so be careful on the road and reassure yourself by talking to your local Encharter Insurance agent about your CT Car Insurance policy. They can let you know if you are properly covered and they can make suggestions to get you the best possible policy for the best possible price.
A lot of people will be traveling for the holidays; but leaving for an extended period time leaves your home vulnerable. So, to keep your home and your possessions safe this year, here are some safety tips to keep in mind, courtesy of About.com:
Lock doors and windows
Have a neighbor watch your house and pick up your mail
Lights should be on a timer
Leave a television/radio on
Valuables should not be visible through the windows/doors of your home
Another way to be sure that your house is safe this year is by reviewing your CT Homeowner’s Insurance policy with your local Encharter Insurance agent. They can tell you if you are adequately protected from loss and help you understand your policy by sorting through the jargon.
Life is full of important decisions. Where to go to college, who to marry, and where to work are all questions that can define parts of your life. But one of the most important decisions in your life is where to buy your first home. Many factors lead to this purchase: where is your job, how do you like the area, do you love the home, but none of that matters if you cannot afford it.
CNN constructed a list of the most and least affordable cities in the U.S. Two out of the five least affordable cities came in the Northeast region with New York and Bridgeport, Connecticut boasting high prices for homes. Although both have become more affordable the last few years, the nearby cities have a median home price of about $430,000. The most affordable city is Indianapolis, Indiana. Indianapolis has a median price for homes at a modest $109,000.
So whether you live in New York or Bridgeport, or another city or town that you feel charges outrageous prices, you must pay for two things: mortgage and insurance. After making that critical decision of where to live, the next question is with whom are you going to insure your home. There is an array of insurance companies, but who can give you the best coverage at an affordable price with courteous staff? It is a steep task to weed through the amount of companies who are all preaching the same central idea.
But at Encharter Insurance, our philosophy is: “It’s all about protecting you.” Home insurance can be complicated and features and coverage can be dismissed to save a few dollars in the eyes of either the company or customer. We want to make sure you are receiving the best possible coverage for what you have at the best possible price. Moreover, our knowledgeable and courteous staff will cater to your needs. And for additional coverage, we provide Personal Umbrella Insurance to add on to you liability coverage.
