Oscar Nominations Released!

The Oscars recently released their nominations for the 83rd annual event and The King’s Speech and The Social Network led the pack with the most nominations. A movie about a stuttering king and a college student creating a website are not your typical leaders or blockbusters, but ones that definitely stirred up controversy and discussion.

Many dedicated movie-goers were more than welcome to head to the internet to vent their frustrations on which movies or characters got the short end of the stick. Inception, The Fighter, 127 Hours, and The Town were all in the mix for movies deserving more nominations.

Although I am not a movie critic or one that sees every box office winner each weekend, it is interesting to see which movies got recognition versus those who did not. Who knows, maybe I may even watch the show next month, although Ricky Gervais won’t be the host, striking fear in actors’ hearts.

So while you judge the nominations from the comfort of your own home, be glad you aren’t James Franco in 127 Hours, being stuck between a rock and a hard place. If you do enjoy rock climbing or extreme sports, safety cannot be undervalued. Be sure to recognize that accidents can happen anywhere and at anytime. Whether it is on a mountain, in your dreams within dreams (within dreams), or in the boxing ring, accidents are there.

However, since we don’t live in Hollywood, accidents are more likely to happen in our home or car. Be sure to review your home owner’s insurance and auto insurance policies. Give your Encharter Insurance agent a call at (888) 865-1244 or stop by one of our offices.

Pay for Your Coffee with Your Smartphone

We learned last week that Starbucks is now allowing payments from your smartphone in almost all of its stores nationwide, and this looks like a trend that will continue to grow significantly over the next few years. It may grow quickly enough that plastic credit cards may become obsolete sooner rather than later.

Luckily for Visa and MasterCard, this does not mark the end of credit card companies. Paying with your phone at Starbucks is as simple as having a Starbucks card and an app on your phone linked to your credit account.

With Starbucks as an early mover for this new payment method, other companies will most likely be hot on their tails. This can develop into Americans spending ten times as much on their phones in 2014 as they did in 2010.

This new level of technology with smartphones leads many to believe phones are now the most important asset in your pocket, more of a problem to lose than your wallet.

So whether you trust paying with your phone or not, it may become the new norm. Just remember to keep your phone safe, because someone can learn a lot from the information on it.

Something you may want to review is your identity theft coverage on your CT Homeowners Insurance policy with your local Encharter Insurance agent. What Would YOU Do With a Duffel Bag Full of Cash?

If I stumbled upon a duffel bag on the side of the road while walking into work this morning, my initial thought would not be to expect seeing thousands of dollars worth of cash inside. Cash would probably be third on the list after gym shorts and nothingness. If it did contain cash, the beginning of my day would have gone very differently.

However, two transportation workers found a bag filled with $10,000 in cash on the side of a highway in Colorado. Rather than taking a few weeks off and enjoying a nice vacation, they did the noble thing and turned it into the authorities.

Tales such as this one always has us asking ourselves, “Would I do the same thing?” The workers joked to each other of hoping to find an item like this and score big, but turning it in was probably no easy task. Nevertheless, the money was not theirs to claim and it should be returned to the rightful owner.

Losing an asset as large as $10,000 would be devastating, yet people lose their homes and cars every day. Accidents are a daily occurrence and the best thing to work on besides prevention is protection. At Encharter Insurance, we are here to help you protect your assets and bounce back from any loss or accident you may incur.

So even if you aren’t losing a duffel bag full of cash on a weekly basis, check in with your agent today by calling them at 888-865-1244 or visit our virtual office to look into our CT home insurance and CT auto insurance policies.

Surprise! Your Home Has Been Demolished!

We all know what it’s like after a long day at work.  You’ve worked hard and all you want to do is walk through your front door and chill out. Of course, imagine if you come home from that long day at work and you discover that your front door, along with the rest of your house, has been leveled. Well, according to a recent article on NPR.org, a Pennsylvania man came home to find his home demolished after city contractors made the mistake of leveling two homes instead of just his neighbor’s.

Errors and omissions coverage may not be in the forefront of your mind.  When costs are rising, and budgets are tightening, we can easily be distracted and rushed to complete projects on time, and on budget.  Therein lies the breeding ground for mistakes.  I’m sure that these city contractors didn’t have in their cost analysis the cost to rebuild a home mistakenly demolished!  Errors and Ommisions coverage with a business insurance policy from Encharter Insurance could save your business from loss.

Driving in snow can present some interesting obstacles. The roads get slick and, while it may be fun to slide on corners on abandoned roads and do donuts in empty parking lots, when there are other drivers around, icy conditions make for dangerous situations for everyone.

In accidents such as these, you should be confident that the liability limits on your CT Car Insurance policy are sufficient to cover you. Talk to your Encharter Insurance agent today about CT Car Insurance, and whether or not purchasing additional liability coverage with a Personal Umbrella Insurance policy would be a good idea.

Well, they’re predicting snow again for the end of this week so it’s time to get out your skis and snowboards! And we’re fortunate, here in Connecticut, because we have 4 reputable ski slopes that you could visit right in our own state (of course, let’s not forget the very close states of Massachusetts, Vermont and New Hampshire that have great slopes too…). So be sure to pack the kids and the gear in your 4-wheel drive and visit Mohawk Mountain, Mount Southington, Ski Sundown or the Woodbury Ski Area!

In all your haste to get to the mountain, though, be sure to drive carefully and make sure that you have adequate coverage with your current CT Car Insurance policy and CT Umbrella Insurance policy. You want to keep your family safe and protected with an insurance policy you can rely on, but also those friends that you take to the slope with you. Talk to your local Encharter Insurance agent today about the liability limits on your CT Car Insurance policy and whether or not it might be a good idea to purchase a CT Umbrella Insurance policy. An umbrella policy would provide you with additional liability coverage to protect against the losses of a potential lawsuit.

Contact your Encharter agent today! Call us at 888-865-1244, visit our virtual insurance office at www.encharter.com or visit one of our local offices! You can also find us on Facebook and Twitter!
