Coming home after vacation can be a disappointing experience, returning to the real world, or a comforting sight after being away for a while. It is tough to return to reality and having vacation be a distant memory, but obtaining quality souvenirs can serve as a nice reminder of your time elsewhere.

Getting a Mickey Mouse signature from Disney World or an “I <3 NY” shirt from New York City are both staples of the U.S. souvenir industry. A small amount of currency from the country you were in or miniature items of famous landmarks are staples for foreign countries. Most of all, pictures are the biggest items to help remember vacation.

As you mount the pictures on the wall and place them on shelves, they will serve as a nice reminder of your trip. However, when you go on another trip, make sure to properly secure your home. Your Connecticut home insurance can cover against burglary, but preventing a burglary with locking your doors and leaving just one light on can prevent a burglar from breaking into your home.

In the event that your home does get robbed, the only slight comfort is that pictures of memories might not be stolen, only high expense items such as TVs, sofas, and tools. Although this isn’t that much of a comfort, it can provide slight optimism.

Returning to an empty house is not a way to spend the day after your vacation. Your CT home insurance provider should not be the first person you call when you get back home and don’t forget to ask them about how to save money by combining your CT home insurance and your CT Auto Insurance policies. Secure your home and make sure to lock up so you can enjoy your vacation!

Mom’s Home Cookin’ & CT Home Insurance: Comfort for Your Tummy and Your Mind

CT Home InsuranceOne of my favorite features of visiting home is biting into one of my mom’s homemade, right out of the oven chocolate chip cookies. I try and try to match my mom’s baking, but to no avail; she has the magic touch. Everybody claims their mom makes the best cookies in the world, but we love our mother’s cookies so much because she loves them.

Even though our taste buds develop over time (I used to hate seafood, but you can spot me ordering lobster in any restaurant at the Cape this summer), we start developing taste preferences before we are even born. What our mothers eat during pregnancy can help shape what we will enjoy as we grow up.

Not only is this based purely on taste, but smell too. Smell can get transferred and help develop preferences before the child is born. So eating steamed vegetables and meatloaf while pregnant can get children to not push them away at the dinner table as much.

There are countless tips for pregnant women and advice from friends and family it is hard to keep it all straight. Diet and home changes are being made on the fly. The mother begins eating healthier and the father tends to begin baby-proofing the home. Constructing the crib, painting rooms, and doing handiwork become a daily event. Reviewing the CT home insurance is also a wise decision to check the policy to cater to the newborn as well. You’ll want to make sure that that your now baby-proof home is safe for your newest addition to your family.

When I race home next week for some delicious home baked goods, I’ll know it was my mother’s habits that got me to love the cookies, but I’m not complaining. I’ll just have to drive safe to get there in one piece and not have her withhold cookies because I raised the CT car insurance bill.

Speeding Increases Your CT Car Insurance Rates and Your Chances of an Accident

CT Car InsuranceDriving on I-84 the other day, I was enjoying the nice weather we are having and cruising along on the interstate with my windows down. Traffic wasn’t terrible (surprising), but a few people seemed to be in a rush and weaved through lanes, causing some close calls.

Moreover, they were going over 80 mph and thinking that wasn’t fast enough. As someone who has been in an accident that wasn’t even related to speeding, I know going excessively over the speed limit only increases the chance of an accident.

Through experience and observation, I have noticed speeding just isn’t worth it. Usually the person that finds the need to pass someone at a traffic light or on the highway has to eventually come to a stop sign or another traffic light. 9 times out of 10, the person they passed ends up right behind them, waiting the same amount of time.

Additionally, shaving a few seconds of your time is not worth a speeding ticket or accident. These can raise your CT auto insurance rates. They also add much more time to your drive than slowing down at that yellow light would have.

So although it is tempting to fly on the open road, remember that the risks are usually greater than the rewards. Higher CT car insurance rates, a hefty fine, or even causing injury to yourself or others can surely ruin your drive and day. Keep it at an even pace and check with your Connecticut insurance provider to see how you can save money by being a safe and responsible driver.

Your CT Car Insurance & Energy-Saving Technology

Renewable and clean energy have become central points of discussion in the last decade. Global warming is on everyone’s mind and we need to figure out other sources of energy, especially because oil will run out eventually. Wind turbines and solar panels are leading the research field, and researchers have found a way to optimize their placement.

With a design that can provide energy to 115,000 homes, The Solar Wind Bridge has a unique design, employing dozens of wind turbines underneath the road. Additionally, a solar paneled road would provide the alternative to asphalt to create a truly energy efficient area.

This fundamental switch to designing our infrastructure can pave the way to having 100% renewable energy by 2030. This is good news for the environment, home owners, and drivers. With safer roads and energy efficiency, we can hopefully expect fewer accidents.

Accidents occur every day because of slippery roads and lack of visibility. With changes in heated road technology, fewer people may need to call their Connecticut insurance agency during the accident-heavy winter months. Until then, contact your Encharter Insurance agency today for CT auto insurance and CT home insurance quotes.

Every day I read about a new piece of technology that blows my mind. Today was no different. Researchers from Berlin, Germany have developed a car that steers depending on what you are thinking. The driver is connected to a computer and the program as able to detect brainwaves on how the driver wants to drive.

The driver can think “left,” “right,” “brake,” and “accelerate” and the car will react accordingly. Unfortunately, there is a second or two delay between the though occurring and the car reacting, so this product is not ready for the road yet, where drivers have to make split second decisions every time they hop in the driver’s seat.

Additionally, if the driver is just slightly distracted there is potential for disastrous results. So although this technology is impressive, it still has a ways to go before we will see it on the road (if ever). The roads are still not as safe as they should be; having a delayed car scurrying around is a recipe for disaster.

Hopefully your reflexes are up to par, if not you may find yourself calling your CT auto insurance provider. Before you have to call us, call your Encharter Insurance agent at (888) 865-1244 to review your CT auto insurance and CT home insurance policies to ensure you have the coverage you need. Supermoon Helps Drivers with CT Car Insurance…Kinda

Did you see the “Supermoon” on Saturday night? We have a Supermoon every year, but this past Saturday was the biggest the moon has been since 1993. Although just slightly bigger than the typical full moon, it was neat to see it at its largest. With a clear sky and decent temperatures, the large moon lit up the night with ease.

The extra bit of light definitely helped drivers across the globe. When the sun goes down, death rates from auto accidents triple, leading to exchanging CT auto insurance information under the moonlight and in the cold. There are some ways to be safer while driving at night:

Keep your low beams on when behind a vehicle or approaching another to prevent blinding the other drivers.

Keep your lights and windows clean to prevent them from becoming dull and decreasing your vision.

Go at a slower rate of speed than the daytime.

Don’t drive while tired.

Don’t drink and drive!

Since the weather is getting nicer more people will be out late at night. Being cautious will greatly decrease the chance of getting yourself in an accident and having to call your CT car insurance agent, Encharter Insurance.

And if you missed the Supermoon and are waiting for another scene in the sky, don’t worry. The next Halley ’s Comet is in 2061.

CT Auto Insurance & March Madness! (It’s Here…)

CT Auto InsuranceYou say March, I think Madness. The first time I look at the date and see the word ‘March’, I start counting down to the beginning of “The Big Dance”. Round one of the NCAA Division I Basketball playoffs begins March 15 and lasts until April 4. We will have three straight weeks of bracket comparisons, hard-fought games, and upsets.

Although my bracket is always terribly off, I still join the club and make one every year. We know upsets will happen – but who? When? There are so many games that happen in the three week span that it is hard to keep up with during the first three rounds.

ESPN will put the NBA and NHL on the backburner while they play out the second half of their regular seasons to focus on college hoops. The National Championship game will play just a few days after MLB’s opening day. It will be a busy month for sports, but I won’t mind it.

Despite the fact that I will be completing my bracket once the rankings get announced, my friends and I do a small pool, mostly for bragging rights for the winner. Offices and Las Vegas like to up the ante a bit and people can end up throwing away hundreds of dollars. Some people love the game so much they drive from arena to arena to watch as many games as possible.

Driving hours on end to watch teams and throwing money away is not my cup of tea. With so much driving, the risk of getting into an accident is higher. Moreover, frequent driving can raise my CT auto insurance bill. Watching teams I barely know and having a high Connecticut insurance bill is not what I’d prefer right now.

Additionally, I don’t wish to put money in a pot for the game, because there are so many variables that even getting 50% right is astounding. You can save money other ways by talking with your CT car insurance provider to discuss your policy and see if you can make some money saving changes.

If you do make a bracket, good luck! If you hate basketball, sorry; for the next month it will be talked about nonstop.

Understanding Connecticut Car Insurance

Just because it is a law that we must have Connecticut Car Insurance, it doesn’t mean we all have to receive the same coverage. With many insurance companies and different necessities, everyone has a policy that caters to them.

You may review your policy regularly, but if you don’t know what the following coverages entail, you may want to meet with your Connecticut Insurance provider:

  • Collision
  • Liability
  • Medical
  • Comprehensive
  • Personal injury protection
  • Uninsured motorist
  • Underinsured motorist
  • Rental reimbursement

In the event of a crash (which is more likely, since, according to the US Department of Transportation, highway traffic is the highest since 2007), costs can add up quickly. Other vehicles, property, and passengers can all fall under your responsibility and without proper coverage you will be paying out of pocket.

Although you may see the insurance bill as a nuisance to pay every month, you breathe a sigh of relief in the event of an accident. Additionally, your bill can shrink if you repeatedly avoid accidents and are a good driver.

To avoid getting stuck in a bind when you get in an accident, review your CT auto insurance policy with Encharter Insurance, your CT insurance provider.

CT Auto Insurance: A Lasting Resolution to Save

The second we flipped the calendars from 2010 to 2011 people across the globe vowed to change their way of living. Dieting, exercising, and quitting smoking were on the top of most people’s lists for their New Year’s Resolutions.

That fateful first week of January sees gyms packed and diet pills flying off the shelves. However, once we got used to seeing 2011 on our calendars and stop discussing what we did to celebrate the New Year, we backed off of our resolutions.

Two months and a week removed from the ball drop, March begins the Motivational New Year according to Intent.com. The weather is starting to get nicer, so going for a jog outside is not out of the question and you can improve your habits for yourself, not just because it’s what everybody is expected to do.

If you have been keeping up with your New Year’s Resolutions, then you are one of the few and also likely to keep up with them. Sticking with them for over two months shows dedication and hopefully you won’t turn back now.

Other common resolutions include: eliminating debt, reducing waste, and saving money. All of these resolutions can be helped by your CT insurance provider. If you combine your CT auto insurance and CT home insurance, you can save money. Additionally, you can reduce waste by switching to paperless billing and free yourself of another envelope in the mail.

Good luck with your resolutions, and hopefully the lovely weather we can be expecting will revitalize your drive!

CT Business Insurance & The Unsightly State of New England’s Economy

CT Business InsuranceIt seems Washington DC and businesses aren’t the only entities that have trouble with debt. The Daily Beast rated the 50 states’ debt, and it does not look to good for New England.

Rounding out the top 3 spots, southern New England has accrued the most debt. With Rhode Island, being the most at risk, we come in at a somber #2 with $28.4 billion in debt from 2009 (it takes the numbers a while to be official). Unfortunately, the rest of New England doesn’t fare much better. All of northern New England made the unwanted top 20 as well.

Obviously, this isn’t the best of news, even though it may be a few months old. Poor decisions and a poor economy lead to the core of the nation’s troubles. Hopefully you make wise decisions for your business. Sometimes everything isn’t clear, but making sure you have a fallback idea can help you minimize risks.

A great way to minimize risks and protect your assets is to get proper CT commercial insurance. Sadly, businesses have problems and go under every day, but CT business insurance can go a long way to helping you and your company.

Look at our Encharter Insurance Partner’s Page for online promotions on our CT insurance page for a way to help your business reach out. Moreover, you can contact our social media team at any time for social media marketing advice by e-mailing them at heiphanie@encharter.com.

Let us see if we can keep our small businesses afloat and pass off the #2 spot to another state as we climb out of debt.
