Valentine's Day CT insurance Happy Valentine’s Day to all – both believers and critics (I hear both sides)! Have you ever taken the time to learn the history behind Valentine’s Day? For you VDay critics out there, it didn’t start out as a romantic holiday, or one that was so commercialized. There are many stories that have been merged together for Saint Valentine’s background. He was a priest, but many people say he was also a physician. He cared for a jailor’s blind daughter, but since Christianity was at the time illegal, Saint Valentine was imprisoned. Before being put to death, Saint Valentine sent a token of his affection to the jailor’s daughter: a letter with a yellow crocus inside, signed “From your Valentine.” When the jailor gave it to his daughter, the crocus fell out and her sight was magically cured. (As you have probably guessed, this is where Valentines come from.) As far as the years to come to make Valentine’s Day what it is in this century, here’s some bullet point history:

  • In the 14th century, Geoffery Chaucer connected Valentine’s Day with the birds’ mating season and having babies. This was the first instance of romantic connotations.
  • In 1850, the holiday switched from religious to commercial when Valentine cards were mass produced. The cars were insult cards meant as a joke.
  • Around this time, chocolate was given as a remedy for broken hearts. However, since chocolate is also known as an aphrodisiac, it became associated with Valentine’s Day.
  • In the coming years, heart-shaped chocolate boxed, mass-produced Valentine’s Day cards, candy hearts and chocolate kisses were created.
  • In 1969, the Roman Catholic Church took the holiday off the religious calendar, and it officially became a commercial holiday. During the ‘80s, the jewelry industry joined in on the promotion of the holiday.

So whether you get hyped up on the idea of Valentines, chocolate & jewelry (oh my!), or you prefer to stay away from the commercialized holiday, there’s still a need for Connecticut insurance. Valentine’s Day supporters – you may need to insure that new piece of bling you received from your Valentine with Connecticut Jewelry Insurance! Coffee and Lunch Indulgences inspire to save money on Insurance CTAre your personal here-and-there spending habits getting you in trouble when they’re all added up? Maybe… Yahoo News breaks down some statistics about how Americans’ indulgences add up:

  • U.S. workers spend more than $1000/year on coffee
  • U.S. workers spend about $2000/year on lunch

Men and younger workers are more likely to spend around $5 for a coffee, whereas women and older workers are more reserved.

  • Per week, workers spend about $37
  • Men spend more ($47/week)
  • Women spend about $27/week

The biggest differences are seen when broken down by age:

  • 18 to 34 year old professionals spend around $25/week on coffee
  • Workers over 45 spend around $14/week on coffee

Keep in mind that the money spent on coffee and lunch (around $3000/year) is double the average commuting expense ($1500).  You can probably guess that many of these “youngsters” made a New Year’s resolution to save money by bringing lunch to work this year. CT Home Insurance protects your homeWhat happens when your working roof suddenly becomes leaky? What if that’s just the beginning of your problems? A Connecticut woman hired a contractor who has practically destroyed her home. There is no longer water in her sink and her toilets no longer work. At night, since her home does not hold heat, she only heats it for 20 minutes at a time when it gets really cold. Her basement has water on the walls and on the floor. Where is it coming from? Not the roof, but her toilet! For this poor women, a lawyer is probably necessary. But what about the rest of you who aren’t experiencing problems…yet?

If your home is leaking and causing damage, your Connecticut Homeowner’s Insurance policy should be able to cover your damages. Your personal possessions are also covered up to a set limit. This time of year comes around and we’re all scrambling to find the perfect gifts. Let’s be honest, though…what’s better than giving a puppy? It’s like you’d be wrapping up loyalty, friendship and love in a package only it would be exploding with cuteness!

Before you go off and find that little dog that will certainly steal your heart and the heart of your family, have you considered your current CT Home Insurance policy?

As adorable and loving as your pup may be with your family, it does present its own liability risks.  What if your dog should become aggressive and attack a neighbor or friend? You would be liable for any damage caused by your dog and it won’t matter how loving you think he is with the family. Are your current liability limits enough to protect you from the losses of a potential lawsuit?

While you’re having an insurance expert at Encharter Insurance review your current CT Homeowners Insurance policy, it would be a good idea to talk to them about the newest four-legged member of your family and about additional liability coverage in the form of a CT Umbrella Insurance policy.

Your Daughter’s Sweet 16 & Your CT Liability Coverage

Umbrella Insurance CTSo your little princess is turning 16 and wants a huge Sweet 16 party, not far from the MTV Sweet 16 show, of course.  Besides the invitations, the cake, and the decorations, you’ll need to rent a hall!  But will you have to look into liability insurance?

It’s always a good idea to have a chat with your CT Insurance agent if there are any questions about your insurance needs. That being said, in most cases, if you have a CT Homeowners Insurance Policy, then the liability coverage on that policy should cover you.  Homeowners Policy provides liability coverage for various “insured locations”, one of which is “part of the premises occasionally rented to the ‘insured for personal use’.”

But, asking your local Encharter Insurance agent about additional liability insurance is the smartest choice. Additional liability coverage oftentimes takes the form of an Umbrella Policy, which (in most cases) would give you an extra $1,000,000 in liability coverage.  With all the fanfare of the biggest party of your child’s year, anything can happen and it’s best to be prepared—the agents at Encharter Insurance are ready to prepare you for almost anything (you’re on your own with the teenagers…).

Cute Puppy; Not So Cute for CT Insurance

Home Insurance CTPuppies can be so cute and they can be a great addition to any family.  However, one thing you want to keep in mind before you decide on a new furry friend is how your CT Homeowners Insurance carrier will feel about it.

Some CT Insurance carriers see certain dog breeds as liability risks and, because of that, it may negatively affect your coverage; i.e. some carriers will cancel your policy and you might be forced to write your policy with an excess lines carrier, which will make your premium sky-rocket.

The best thing to do BEFORE YOU GET LOST IN THOSE BIG PUPPY-DOG EYES would be to talk to your CT Insurance agent and see what breeds are on the “no-no” list for your carrier.
